How We Began..and What We Do..

In 1993, Muskoka had 50,000 people and 10 courses. When we looked at the demographics of Muskoka, we could see a demand for 12 courses at the most - with growth for the next 10 years taken into account. So we, the MacKay family and Don, Joyce, Andrew Scott and Russell, committed to building a 9 hole course.

The first nine holes of Muskoka Highlands came about in 1993, shaping a dairy farm into 9 very interesting holes with leading edge greens and tees and a feel reminiscent of Scotland - where golf began (sorry Augusta - golf is meant to be played with Nature as your partner). Right from the start, we have remained committed to working with Mother Nature, and not against her, to deliver some of the best playing conditions in Muskoka. An additional nine holes were added in 2000 - you really cannot tell the difference between the older and the newer.. On our 17th tee you'll find a memorial stone dedicated to Mrs. Dinner, who was the first white child born in Monck Township when the area was originally being homesteaded.

We gradually add new features each year - a new tee on 8, pot bunkers on 3 holes, and now a new tee deck on 11 for 2010. All while trying to improve featuires like cart paths.

We do stay consistent in one key area - our staff. We are pleased that at least 2 of our serving staff will be back for 2010 - and we will replace those that are furthering their careers with new and energetic people who love to work with you.

Junior program and Junior golfers hold a special place with The MacKay Family and we care committed to hosting the Bay Area Golfer Junior Tour, as well as the Canadian Junior Golfer Association tournaments, are welcome here.

The course has grown up - and so have the sons - Andrew is now the Assistant CPGA Professional at Westmount in Kitchener, Scott is the General Manger at Wildwinds in Guelph, and Russell is in 3rd year and playing on the golf team at the University of Waterloo.
